Key Takeaways
The room was largely supportive of the project, with SMEs showing strong interest in supply chain and partnership opportunities. Sustainability credentials were well received and helped address initial concerns, and the explaination of long-term community benefits—particularly the Community Reef concept—gained strong support, including from previously undecided attendees.
At an evening session hosted by the Havering SME Network, I presented ancoverview of the Data Centre project, outlined opportunities for SMEs and local businesses during the build-out and operational phases, and encouraged engagement in the upcoming consultation period. Discussion was constructive and positive overall, with only a small number of concerns raised and addressed.
The event also provided valuable networking opportunities. I met Redical, who expressed interest in partnering on the project, reconnected with members of the Romford and Riverside BID, and discussed the potential creation of a Hornchurch BID. The Councillor confirmed they will circulate consultation details to all members once live, helping to build wider awareness. Overall, it was a successful and productive evening.
